• Pre-employment testing. Each driver must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol testing before starting operations on a commercial vehicle. The examination checks the use of marijuana, cocaine, opioids, amphetamines, and phencyclidine. Potential drivers must receive a verified negative result before allowing to operate a vehicle. 
• Random testing. Companies should implement random drug and alcohol testing according to DOT standards. The selection of drivers should be random and spread throughout the year to ensure equal chances for all workers.
• Post-accident testing. Drivers involved in road accidents must undergo post-accident drug and alcohol examinations. This includes accidents that result in a citation for a moving traffic violation, an injury, property damage, or a fatality.
